Markdown versions of documentation pages are available by appending `.md` to page URLs; this page is available as [Markdown](https://docs.helmut.de/helmut4-releases/helmut4-components/streamdesigner/wildcards/path-related-wildcards-9/path-map-auto.md).

# Path Map Auto ?

This wildcard is replaced based on the operating system's representation of the input path. This process requires matching path mappings defined in Helmut preferences to ensure mapping across different platforms.

The wildcard is used in the following way:

* {path.map.auto.?}
* For the following input (?) --> R:\Users\Administrator\Pictures\helmut-IO.ico
* The Unix output is going to be --> /Volumes/Profiles\_1/Users/Administrator/Pictures/helmut-IO.ico
* The Windows output is going to be --> R:\Users\Administrator\Pictures\helmut-IO.ico

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.helmut.de/helmut4-releases/helmut4-components/streamdesigner/wildcards/path-related-wildcards-9/path-map-auto.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
